One of only 55 left drives built from 1960-1962, this aluminum bodied example of the coachbuilders’ art was first delivered in late 1961 to Sherry Harrah, the wife of the legendary collector Bill Harrah who also owned Modern Classic Motors, the Nevada distributors for Rolls Royce, Bentley and Ferrari at the time. The factory records indicate that it was well optioned with dashboard mounted altimeter, air conditioning, Sundym glass, electric antenna, and the seldom seen power window option to all four doors, as it remains today. The original speedometer reads 59,460 which is believed to be true and is supported by its unbroken ownership pedigree. The correspondence file accompanying the car includes some letters on original Modern Classic Motors letterhead offering the car as a “dealer demonstrator’ to the second owner who kept it for more than 25 years.
It was acquired by us in very well preserved undamaged and uncorroded condition in early 2000, after having spent its entire life in Nevada and California and was resold to its fourth owner, a very meticulous gentleman from whom it was recently repurchased. He commissioned us to carry out a very tasteful refurbishment of the automobile which may now be considered among the finest anywhere. The mechanical aspects were thoroughly reviewed and prepared to ensure proper operation and reliability. The exterior was refinished in a dark Oxford Blue and all the exterior chrome plating was renewed in the process, along with the weatherstrips. The interior was redone in English Tan and may now be considered as show quality. The rear air conditioning unit was upgraded and the ductwork incorporated into the headliner as found on the well known one-off BC22LXC. The engine and bay were finely detailed and refinished to reflect the character of the balance of the car and fresh radial tires were fitted. Upon completion it was sent to the 1992 Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance where it captured the Amelia Island Award Trophy against some worthy competition, before delivery to Houston, Texas where it lived until it was returned home to us.
Correct handbooks and complete tools, the small ones in their special Mulliner box accompany the automobile along with copies of the factory and coachwork records. The original chassis, engine and body have never been separated from each other. |
